heart your parts
As a group, we decided on an action that included the following
things:
Below are the two documents we created in order to hand out during our action and raise eating disorder awareness:
We chose to do this particular action in order to get people to think of themselves in a positive light. Too much of pop culture is focused on the negative. (i.e wear makeup to fix your imperfect face, go on a diet to improve your imperfect body) This imperfection-focused society largely influences people and can cause low self-esteem, anxiety, and
depression, which can lead to eating disorders. |
Our campus community partner contact, Brooke Ruxton at the CSDC, helped us in the following ways:
Our group believes that our action was successful because we were able to accomplish our goal of getting people to think about themselves in a positive light. One issue we ran into is that people were more interested in filling out the hearts than learning about eating disorders. Another issue we were faced with was the poor choice of location on our part. We were in the back of the Holmes Student Center, which doesn't see much people traffic. So, if anyone else were to replicate this action (which we would recommend!) we would advise a few changes. First, start with talking about eating disorders and end with people filling out a heart cutout. Second, find a location to set up that has an abundance of people traffic. Even though we had a few bumps in the road, we still view our action research project as a success, and we would advise other people to involve themselves in an event like ours. |
